Recently as a part of college assignment, together with my group, I had an opportunity to practise using portable lights on location. Our tutor gave us specific objectives as the future employer would do. We were introduced to detailed brief that we were required to follow. Working in groups of four and five, we were responsible to prepare our own lights and organise the set. We had to make sure rooms looked presentable which sometimes involved rearranging furniture, cleaning up the floor or moving items around in favour of composition.
If we were to use direct light to bright the room up we would definitely get some reflections in the glass boxes behind the subject. Be bouncing the light of the wall we managed to fill the room with light and avoid having unflattering reflection that would interfere with exposure.
This set up was most time consuming. It was difficult to get the composition right. We tried few different lenses as the space was too compacted and the arrangement looked too busy. Once we agreed on composition we had to set the lights.
Overall I really enjoyed this sessions. I wanted to learn how to use efficiently more than one light. This assignment has shown me where to start and how to plan your light arrangement.
I have been asked to photograph interiors of one of the restaurants and I will definitely use techniques I learned here for my next task.
